Our customer are a global data centre organisation, with a number of data centres across the United States, EMEA and Asia. Due to an internal promotion at one of their established sites in the Surrey area, they have a requirement for a engineering/technical services manager to support the existing data centre management team on site. The company own their data centres and self-deliver maintenance services across them, making this a rare opportunity to work “inhouse” rather than for a maintenance contractor. Guideline salary is circa £70-72k basic salary, along with a discretionary bonus of up to 10%.
Candidates will be fully qualified in electrical or mechanical engineering, ideally through a full apprenticeship. Additional training/courses completed such as HV / LV authorisation, F-Gas, NEBOSH/IOSH Managing Safely, or manufacturer training courses are desireable. Candidates must have at least three years experience of managing within a critical environment, ideally another data centre or banking/financial contract. A good working knowledge of the following HVAC/Critical systems will be important:
- HV & LV Distribution
- Static/Rotary UPS Systems
- Downflow / CRAC Units
- Diesel Generators
- Chillers
Along with the technical aspects of the role, prospective candidates will have experience in:
- Leading & Motivating a team of multi-skilled data centre engineers
- Coordinating specialist subcontractors for site visits
- Providing specialist technical support
- Participate in meetings with colocation customers
The company are one of the global leaders in co-location data centres, with plenty of opportunities for training and development available. This is best seen through the recent promotion of the existing engineering manager into a more senior position based out of their UK Head office, creating a need to backfill this role. With a large portfolio of UK facilities, and their larger global reach, there are plenty of promotion/advancement opportunities. Combined with the fact of working inhouse, attractive benefits and the opportunity to work local to home in the Surrey/South West London area, this is an exciting opportunity for an existing technical/engineering manager within critical environments to advance their career, particularly if they are tired of commuting into Central London/round to the West London data centre campuses daily.
