Job descriptionOur client are a well established managing agent/real estate organisation, who operate internationally, have a requirement for an engineering services manager to be based at one of their flagship commercial buildings in the City of London. The role will be based at a high profile tower building, comprising a variety of corporate tenants, and entail helping provide an excellent service to tenants as well as technical support and management of the building’s 4rd party M&E services contractor.
Candidates will be fully qualified in either electrical or mechanical engineering, ideally through a full apprenticeship, with at least three years of experience in a supervisor or managerial role within commercial building services. Along with core qualifications, any additional training such as F-Gas, High Voltage authorisation, IOSH/NEBOSH, etc will all be beneficial and particular working knowledge should include:
Electrical Fault-Finding, Single & Three Phase Power, Fire Alarms, BMS Operation, Diesel Generators, Air Handling & Fan Coil Units, VAV/VRFs, UPS Systems, HV & LV Distribution, Water Treatment, etc.
As much as a technical aptitude, this position will have a focus on liaising with the various tenants within the building, as well as specialist sub contractors for fit-out/refurbishment. Consequentially, the character of prospective candidates is important, the company needing someone personable and approachable, to build positive working relationships within the building.
Experience of auditing and compliance will be important, in managing the performance of the on site contractor, as well as some involvements in appraisals, monthly and quarterly reviews, etc. Although ultimate budgetary and P&L responsibility sits above this role, it will help to have a basic understanding from previous employment.
Working on the managing agent side, with the added security and benefits that come with this, is a relatively rare opportunity. This is a great opportunity for an engineering manager within a similar FM/hard services organisation to join one of the largest real estate firms globally, with all the prospects that would arise from that.
