PRS are working with one of the leading companies in the Renewable and Low-Carbon District and Communal Heating sector in their recruitment for a Head of Engineering.  In the role of Head of Engineering you will be working for a company  that specialises in energy efficiency investment projects and the decarbonisation of heat, adding value to its clients in a number of ways from high quality project delivery, provision of funding solutions and technical consultancy services.
 
The client are a market leader in the UK housing market for Communal and District Heating across a range of technologies including air and ground source heat pumps, and have an extensive portfolio of clients, with a strong can-do ethos with a passion for making things happen.
 
They are growing rapidly and constantly developing new engineering solutions to suit the fast-paced nature of the industry and as such, is seeking a Head of Engineering who is committed to furthering the technical capability and development of the engineering team.
 
Purpose of the Job
The Head of Engineering will be office and field based covering the UK and reporting into the Director, Energy. The role will be based in London with requirement to travel across the UK, as required.
The postholder will manage the resource requirements of the engineering department and line manage all M&E Engineers, holding responsibility for ensuring engineering activities are completed to time and required standard.
You will manage M&E Engineer technical and commercial input to project implementation, bid generation and opportunity scoping, full design and construction phase verification, as well as managing their own projects.
 
Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage own M&E Engineer responsibilities and projects
  • Line manage M&E Engineers in the Energy department
  • Responsible for work allocation across engineering team and completion of activity in required timescale
  • Ensure works delivered by team to required standard (both industry and business) and in line with client requirements
  • Drive continued high quality design and technical approach in line with up-to-date best practice industry standards across engineering team
  • Provide peer review support to engineering team, alongside Chief Engineer
  • Liaise with Chief Engineer over engineering developments
  • Communicate progress updates and highlights any issues to Director
  • Train and induct new M&E engineers
  • Ensure all engineering activity conducted in line with policies and agreed approach, and quality and environmental management systems
  • Seek new technology development opportunities for both the domestic and commercial business areas
  • Full technical design and report writing as part of tender responses, project work, and construction as-built documentation
Essential
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers), IMechE (Institute of Mechanical Engineers) or IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology)
  • Engineering degree (BEng/MEng) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Building Services
  • Experience working on commercial building system design
  • Bid and project management experience, working to tight deadlines
  • Building and plantroom surveying experience
  • Experience working in the Energy Industry
  • Good communicator, quick to build rapport with colleagues, suppliers and clients
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to pragmatically prioritise tasks for a team
  • Results driven with focus on quality and client led solutions
  • Willing to travel
Desirable
  • People management experience
  • Experience of renewable and low carbon technology, such as GSHP, ASHP, along with Solar PV/Battery storage and CHP/grid parallel connections
  • Experience supporting public funding stream applications
  • Experience with AutoCAD software
  • Knowledge of Revit software
