We are looking for a skilled Mobile HIU Technician . In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of Heat Interface Units (HIUs) across residential properties. You will work closely with our Service Desk to ensure a first-class service to our customers and help maintain the reliability of communal and district heating systems.
You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior technicians, sharing your experience and helping the team develop their skills. The HIU Team Manager will support and guide you in achieving both team and personal development goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections and reactive maintenance of HIUs/CIUs to restore heat or cooling promptly.
- Carry out repairs identified during servicing, including replacement of pumps, valves, actuators, and system bleeding.
- Update work orders promptly using the company asset management system.
- Liaise with the Service Desk to rebook and close out jobs on hold.
- Manage your van stock responsibly and escalate critical parts requirements to management.
- Work safely and in line with the company’s Health & Safety policies.
- Assist and support colleagues to achieve team objectives.
- Perform heat meter works, such as battery replacement, meter replacement, and investigation of error codes with the internal Metering Team.
- Provide bi-weekly reports on PPMs and reactive jobs to management.
- Follow the company escalation process when further action is required outside your remit (e.g., plant room temperature issues).
- Deliver a high standard of customer service at all times.
- Mentor junior technicians when required.
Person Specification
- Proven experience in plumbing or HVAC, ideally with at least 2 years’ experience.
- Experience working in a residential environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of communal and district heating systems.
- Experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of HIUs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning about emerging energy technologies and contributing to the drive towards Net Zero.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Positive, proactive attitude with the ability to manage conflicting deadlines.
- Qualifications
- ND/City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Full DBS clearance.
