Shift Technician – Data CentreWe are recruiting for an experienced Shift Technician to join a high-performing engineering team within a mission-critical data centre environment. This is a days-only position supporting the operation and maintenance of critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure, ensuring maximum uptime, safety, and compliance.
Working for a leading data centre operator, you’ll be part of a team responsible for maintaining a world-class critical facility, delivering both planned and reactive maintenance while supporting operational excellence across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on critical M&E systems.
- Monitor, operate, and maintain infrastructure including HV/LV electrical systems, UPS, generators, cooling systems, pumps, BMS, and associated plant.
- Perform routine inspections, plant checks, and system testing to ensure optimal performance and resilience.
- Respond to equipment alarms and faults, carrying out first-line diagnosis and repairs where appropriate.
- Operate within permit-to-work, lock out/tag out (LOTO), and safe systems of work procedures.
- Supervise specialist contractors and ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with site standards.
- Accurately complete maintenance records, shift reports, and CAFM documentation.
- Support incident response, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with colleagues to maintain the highest levels of operational availability and customer service
- Recognised qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering.
- Experience working within a data centre, critical facilities, or other high-availability environment.
- Good understanding of critical infrastructure including electrical distribution, generators, UPS, HVAC, and BMS systems.
- Experience with planned and reactive maintenance in a live operational environment.
- Knowledge of permit-to-work systems, health and safety legislation, and engineering compliance.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with a proactive and team-oriented approach.
- Ability to work a permanent days-only continental shift pattern.
