Are you an electrically qualified engineer looking to develop your career within one of the most exciting, resilient and rapidly expanding sectors of the engineering industry?
We are representing a major global data centre owner-operator, ranked among the world’s largest by IT load and data centre footprint, as it continues to invest in its technical operations teams. We are seeking five engineering professionals to join its directly employed workforce across two locations.
These are excellent opportunities to join a dedicated data centre maintenance and operations business where technical development, operational excellence and long-term career progression are central to the proposition.
Whether you already have data centre experience or are an electrically qualified engineer looking to transition from another critical or industrial environment, there are opportunities to suit your background.
SURREY
- 2 × Electrical Shift Engineers — up to £47,000 + 10% bonus + shift allowance + overtime
The Opportunity
Data centres are at the heart of today’s digital infrastructure, supporting cloud computing, AI, financial services and global connectivity. Keeping these facilities operational requires skilled engineers who understand the importance of reliability, safety, preventative maintenance and rapid fault response.
As part of the technical operations team, you will help maintain the critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure that keeps these facilities running around the clock.
Depending on the position and your existing experience, responsibilities will include:
- Delivering planned preventative maintenance and reactive engineering support across critical building services.
- Monitoring and maintaining electrical distribution systems and associated infrastructure.
- Supporting the safe operation of UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers and LV/HV distribution.
- Identifying faults, investigating equipment issues and supporting root-cause analysis.
- Working with BMS and controls systems to monitor performance and maintain operational resilience.
- Following robust permit-to-work, isolation, safety and engineering procedures.
- Supporting contractors, specialist maintenance providers and wider technical operations teams.
- Maintaining accurate engineering records, reporting and maintenance documentation.
- Contributing to continuous improvement, operational efficiency and a strong customer-focused service.
We are looking for engineers who take ownership, communicate effectively and want to continue developing their technical capability within a sophisticated engineering environment.
Surrey — Electrically Qualified Engineers Ready for the Next Step
For the 2 x Surrey shift positions, we are keen to speak with time-served, electrically qualified engineers who can demonstrate a solid employment history, practical maintenance experience and a genuine interest in developing a career in data centres.
Your experience may come from:
- Electrical installation and building services.
- HVAC and facilities maintenance.
- Pharmaceutical or other regulated environments.
- Manufacturing, production and industrial engineering.
- Power generation, utilities or electrical infrastructure.
You should have a recognised electrical qualification, such as a relevant City & Guilds qualification or an equivalent apprenticeship-based qualification, together with a sound understanding of electrical systems and maintenance principles.
This is an opportunity to transfer your existing skills into a specialist engineering sector with significant long-term potential.
What We Are Looking For
Across the vacancies, beneficial experience and technical knowledge include:
- Electrical power distribution, switchgear and transformers.
- UPS systems, standby generators and emergency power infrastructure.
- Single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
- Low-voltage and, where applicable, high-voltage systems.
- HVAC equipment, chillers, pumps and associated plant.
- CRAC/CRAH cooling systems and supporting mechanical infrastructure.
- Building Management Systems (BMS), controls and monitoring.
- Electrical switching, safe isolation and permit-to-work procedures.
- Planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and reactive repairs.
Joining a directly employed technical team means becoming part of the operation, rather than simply delivering a contracted service. You will have the opportunity to build your knowledge, develop your technical expertise and progress within an industry that continues to invest heavily in its infrastructure.
The overall package includes competitive basic salaries, performance-related bonuses and overtime opportunities, with shift allowances applicable to the shift positions. Training and professional development provide further scope to build a long-term career.
For experienced data centre engineers, this is an opportunity to take the next step with a major operator.
For engineers from electrical, industrial, HVAC or infrastructure backgrounds, it could be the move that opens the door to a new and rewarding technical career.
