We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) to join a state-of-the-art data centre supporting business-critical infrastructure within a high-performance, zero-downtime environment.
As a Data Centre HVAP Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring electrical safety, system uptime, and operational continuity. Working closely with the Engineering Shift Leader and Building Engineering Supervisor, you will take ownership of HV operations, maintenance delivery, and incident response across critical infrastructure.
This continental shift role offers strong autonomy, technical exposure, and the opportunity to work with advanced mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities Critical Engineering & Operations
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in line with SLAs
- Act as HV Authorised Person (HVAP), carrying out:
- HV switching operations
- Isolations and system control
- High-risk activity management
- Prepare and execute switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs
- Respond to BMS alarms and system faults, ensuring rapid diagnosis and resolution
- Maintain system uptime and infrastructure integrity within a live data centre
- Administer the Permit to Work (PTW) system
- Prepare and review Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS)
- Ensure compliance with L8 regulations (evaporative cooling and water systems)
- Supervise subcontractors and specialist vendors
- Maintain full compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental legislation
- Support incident management, outages, and emergency response
- Monitor and maintain critical spares and materials
- Complete documentation using CAFM systems (e.g. REALM)
- Produce accurate technical reports and maintenance records
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams and client stakeholders
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
- Maintain high standards of accountability and operational excellence
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, compliance, and reliability
- Current HV Authorised Person (HVAP) status
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds (or equivalent in Electrical Engineering)
- Up-to-date Wiring Regulations (18th Edition preferred)
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- Proven experience in:
- Data centres / critical environments / high-availability sites
- HV switching and electrical infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- High attention to detail with strong problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- PASMA / IPAF certifications
- Manual Handling certification
- Experience with:
- BMS / PMS / Fire systems
- Integrated building management platforms
- Strong understanding of mission-critical environments and uptime requirements
