Shift Engineer – Data Centre / Critical Facilities (Electrical / Mechanical) London | Continental Shift Pattern (Days & Nights) | Full-Time, PermanentCompetitive Salary + Shift Allowance + Overtime + Training & Development
Overview We are recruiting a Shift Engineer / Data Centre Engineer / Critical Facilities Engineer to join a high-performing team within a mission-critical data centre in London.
This is an excellent opportunity for engineers with experience in electrical, mechanical, or HVAC systems to build a long-term career in a high-growth, resilient sector. You will play a key role in maintaining uptime, reliability, and operational performance across critical infrastructure within a 24/7 environment.
Role Overview As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of critical building services systems within a live data centre.
You will gain hands-on experience with:
- LV/MV electrical distribution systems
- UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems
- Standby generators
- HVAC and cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH)
- Mechanical plant and associated infrastructure
- BMS / PMS / CMS monitoring systems
Key Responsibilities Operations & System Management
- Operate and monitor critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure
- Carry out HV/LV switching operations in line with Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
- Monitor site performance via BMS, PMS, and CMS systems
- Act as first responder to alarms and faults, ensuring rapid diagnosis and resolution
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
- Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and repairs across M&E systems
- Support system reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
- Supervise subcontractors and specialist vendors
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ) standards
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, logs, and incident reports
- Adhere to statutory regulations, site procedures, and operational standards
- Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ / City & Guilds or equivalent qualification
- Experience in building services, facilities management, or industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of:
- Electrical systems (LV/MV)
- Mechanical plant and HVAC systems
- Proven fault finding and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work effectively within a shift-based, 24/7 environment
- Experience in data centres or mission-critical environments
- HV/LV Authorised Person (AP) status or working towards
- Knowledge of UPS systems, generators, and critical power infrastructure
- Relevant certifications (NCC, REC, or equivalent)
