Role Overview As an AC / Refrigeration Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering both Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across commercial sites and building services environments.
You will gain hands-on experience working with:
- Split systems
- VRV / VRF systems
- FCUs and AHUs
- Commercial refrigeration systems
- HVAC plant and control systems
- Fault finding, diagnostics, and system optimisation
Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Operations
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in line with SFG20 standards and SLA requirements
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Carry out servicing, inspections, and performance checks across HVAC equipment
- Take ownership of jobs from initial call-out through to completion
- Ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably
- Carry out fault diagnosis and system troubleshooting using appropriate tools and methods
- Produce accurate service reports and technical documentation
- Maintain F-Gas records, logbooks, and compliance documentation
- Update job progress via CAFM systems or mobile working platforms
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety (HSEQ) regulations and industry standards
- Follow Safe Systems of Work and site-specific compliance procedures
- Build strong relationships with clients, site teams, and stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with engineering teams and management
- Deliver a consistently professional and customer-focused service
- Provide technical support and recommendations where required
- Manage materials, refrigerants, and spare parts efficiently
- Identify system faults, operational risks, and improvement opportunities
- Support energy efficiency and system optimisation initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement and engineering best practice
- Support overtime, call-outs, and additional works where required
- Assist with emergency breakdown response and reactive maintenance activities
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as an AC / Refrigeration Engineer or HVAC Engineer
- NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (or equivalent)
- F-Gas Certification (2079 or equivalent)
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostics, and problem-solving skills
- Experience working within commercial HVAC and refrigeration environments
- Good understanding of Health & Safety and compliance procedures
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience with VRV / VRF systems, chillers, and AHUs
- Familiarity with CAFM systems or mobile job management platforms
- Additional HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical qualifications
- Experience working within facilities management or building services environments
- Knowledge of BMS controls and energy efficiency systems
- Technically strong with excellent problem-solving ability
