HVAP Technician Jobs in London – Data Centre & Critical Facilities Engineering We are seeking an experienced Data Centre HVAP Technician to join a high-performing engineering team within a live, mission-critical environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) to work within a technically advanced data centre environment, supporting critical infrastructure, operational resilience, and electrical safety across essential systems.
Working closely with the Engineering Supervisor, Shift Leader, and client representatives, you will play a key role in maintaining uptime, compliance, and safe operation of HV/LV infrastructure within a high-availability environment.
Purpose of the Role As the Data Centre HVAP Technician, you will be responsible for supervising and delivering both Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities across critical building systems and infrastructure.
You will ensure:
- Full compliance with site procedures and operational standards
- Safe execution of HV switching operations and isolations
- Effective management of Permit to Work (PTW) systems
- Compliance with Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and Health & Safety regulations
- Reliable operation and resilience of mission-critical infrastructure
Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across critical plant, electrical systems, and building infrastructure
- Ensure all maintenance activities meet or exceed agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Respond promptly to BMS alarms and carry out emergency fault response and repairs where required
- Support operational uptime and resilience across all critical systems
- Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with ACoP L8 (Legionella) requirements
- Manage the availability and control of critical spare parts to support maintenance and incident response activities
- Act as the site High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP)
- Carry out HV switching operations, isolations, and electrical safety procedures
- Develop, review, and implement switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs
- Implement, manage, and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) procedures
- Ensure all engineering activities are completed in accordance with:
- Safe Systems of Work (SSoW)
- Company procedures
- Statutory regulations
- Health & Safety legislation
- Review subcontractor RAMS and ensure all work packs contain the required safety documentation prior to approval
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and engineering documentation using REALM task sheets and CAFM systems
- Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS) for in-house engineering activities
- Ensure all compliance records, maintenance logs, and operational reports are completed accurately and on time
- Support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Supervise engineering subcontractors and specialist vendors, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and site procedures
- Provide technical and operational support during unplanned incidents, outages, or critical system failures
- Coordinate effectively with engineering teams, contractors, and client stakeholders during maintenance and incident response activities
- Support emergency response and operational escalation procedures where required
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and client representatives
- Promote a safe and healthy working environment in line with company and client policies
- Present a professional image while delivering a high standard of customer service
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for site safety, operational performance, and compliance
- Commit to ongoing professional development and technical upskilling
- Current High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) status (essential)
- Current Wiring Regulations certification
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Emergency First Aid at Work certification
- Manual Handling certification (advantageous)
- PASMA and IPAF certifications (preferred)
- Proven experience managing live incidents and faults within:
- Data centres
- Critical facilities
- Mission-critical environments
- High-availability operational sites
- Previous experience within a similar HVAP or critical engineering role
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety obligations within live operational environments
- Knowledge of interlinked critical systems including:
- Fire systems
- PMS (Power Monitoring Systems)
- BMS (Building Management Systems)
- Critical power infrastructure
- HV/LV electrical systems
- Technically strong with excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting capability
- Safety-focused with exceptional attention to detail
