Data Centre Technician – Mission-Critical InfrastructureDocklands, London Full-Time | Permanent Competitive Salary + Benefits + Training & Development
Overview We are seeking a skilled and proactive Data Centre Technician to join our Operations team in Docklands, London.
This hands-on role is based in a high-availability, mission-critical data centre, providing exposure to advanced infrastructure, complex building systems, and critical plant equipment.
The ideal candidate is technically qualified, solutions-focused, and thrives in high-responsibility environments. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining uptime, operational resilience, and uninterrupted critical services.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Incident Response
- Respond promptly to critical alarms and system alerts
- Liaise with the Client Service Desk and provide timely updates
- Monitor environmental control systems to maintain temperature, humidity, and operational tolerances
- Execute change control procedures, ensuring accurate documentation
- Support site and client management during emergencies, incidents, and operational drills
- Conduct inspections, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis across electrical, mechanical, and plant systems
- Safely perform start-up, shutdown, and switching operations on UPS, generators, HVAC, and other critical plant
- Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance to SLA standards
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and system performance
- Conduct technical audits to verify asset compliance, performance, and reliability
- Support BMS calibration and EMS monitoring for accurate system data
- Administer the Permit to Work (PTW) system for safe maintenance and contractor activity
- Review RAMS and access permits to mitigate operational risk
- Maintain and follow site-specific SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs
- Record operational and maintenance activities within CMMS and ticketing systems
- Produce technical reports covering UPS performance, battery condition, and asset health
- Collaborate with the Technical Manager, engineering teams, and shift colleagues
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior technicians and apprentices
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure timely issue resolution
- Completed electrical apprenticeship or equivalent recognised technical qualification
- Experience in data centres, building services, or mission-critical facilities
- Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, fault-finding, and maintenance practices
- Experience with BMS, EMS, and critical infrastructure systems
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Proactive, solutions-focused, and able to work independently under pressure
- Commitment to health & safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence
- Knowledge of cGxP-controlled environments
