The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) to join a state-of-the-art data centre, supporting mission-critical infrastructure in a high-performance, zero-tolerance environment.

This is a pivotal role where you will act as a guardian of electrical safety, compliance, and operational continuity. Working alongside the Engineering Shift Leader and Building Engineering Supervisor, you will take ownership of high-voltage systems, planned maintenance, and incident response.

Operating on a continental shift pattern, this position offers autonomy, technical variety, and exposure to advanced critical electrical infrastructure, where precision and safety are essential.

Role Overview As a Data Centre HVAP Technician, you will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and control of high-voltage electrical systems.

You will ensure maximum uptime, lead switching operations, and maintain strict compliance with industry regulations and safe systems of work.

Key Responsibilities Critical Engineering & Operations

  • Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical and building systems
  • Act as the site HVAP, carrying out switching, isolations, and high-risk operations
  • Prepare and execute switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs
  • Respond to BMS alarms and critical incidents, diagnosing faults and restoring services efficiently
  • Maintain uptime and resilience of mission-critical infrastructure

Safety, Compliance & Control

  • Manage and administer the Permit to Work (PTW) system
  • Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
  • Maintain water systems in line with L8 (Legionella) regulations
  • Supervise contractors and specialist vendors to ensure safe and compliant delivery

Operational Support & Reporting

  • Support incident management during faults, outages, and emergency scenarios
  • Maintain availability of critical spares and materials
  • Accurately record maintenance activities using CAFM systems (e.g. REALM)
  • Produce clear technical reports and documentation
  • Build effective relationships with internal teams and stakeholders

Continuous Improvement & Development

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development
  • Maintain high operational and safety standards
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence

Essential Requirements

  • Current High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) status
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (or equivalent)
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Emergency First Aid at Work certification
  • Proven experience in data centres, critical environments, or high-availability facilities
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, switching procedures, and fault management
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation within engineering environments
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in mission-critical settings
