Overview We are recruiting a Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a growing engineering team within a state-of-the-art, mission-critical data centre environment.

You will play a key role in maintaining operational resilience, statutory compliance, and maximum uptime across all electrical and mechanical systems within a live 24/7 environment.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems
- Monitor and operate BMS, PMS, and CMS systems to ensure continuous availability of critical infrastructure
- Respond to alarms, faults, and emergency callouts, carrying out fault-finding, diagnostics, and repairs
- Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in accordance with L8 and water hygiene regulations
- Supervise subcontractors and specialist vendors, ensuring compliance with RAMS, PTW, and site procedures
- Manage and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with statutory, contractual, and Health & Safety requirements
Technical Oversight & Commissioning
- Oversee M&E contractors and ensure compliance with SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs
- Support commissioning, testing, and handover of new infrastructure and upgrade projects
- Assist in managing P1, P2, and P3 incidents alongside Shift Managers and Data Centre leadership teams
- Support operational resilience and critical incident response within a live environment
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate site logbooks, asset registers, and compliance documentation
- Prepare, review, and approve RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments and promote Health & Safety best practice
- Accurately complete CAFM / CMMS task sheets, maintenance records, and engineering reports
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key point of contact for client representatives and operational stakeholders
- Attend operational meetings and support service delivery objectives
- Deliver detailed shift handovers, including plant status, ongoing works, and operational risks
- Work collaboratively with Shift Teams and Data Centre Management to ensure seamless site operations
Technical Scope You will gain hands-on experience across a broad range of critical infrastructure systems, including:
Electrical Systems
- Single and three-phase electrical systems
- UPS systems and standby generators
- Electrical switchgear and control panels
HVAC & Mechanical Systems
- Air Handling Units (AHUs)
- Fan Coil Units (FCUs)
- Chillers, split systems, and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
Fire & Life Safety Systems
- Fire detection and suppression systems
Water & Cooling Systems
- Open and closed chilled water systems
- Evaporative cooling infrastructure
Incident Management
- Respond to unplanned faults and emergency incidents within a live data centre environment
- Ensure rapid escalation, communication, and resolution of critical operational issues
Skills & Experience Essential
- Proven experience within a data centre or critical environment such as finance, healthcare, or infrastructure
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- UPS systems and standby generators
- HVAC and mechanical plant
- BMS monitoring systems
- Ability to manage faults and operational incidents within live environments
- Experience coordinating maintenance and engineering activities
Qualifications
- City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Emergency First Aid at Work
Desirable
- HV Authorised Person (AP) status
- PASMA, IPAF, Confined Space, or Manual Handling certifications
- Experience within high-availability or mission-critical environments

- IT literate with experience using CAFM / CMMS systems
- Reliable, adaptable, and flexible regarding overtime and shift requirements
- Comfortable working at height and using access equipment where required
