Job Title: Data Centre Shift Leader (Critical Environment)
Location: Essex
Salary: £60,000 + Benefits
Shift Pattern: 4 Days / 4 Off / 4 Nights / 6 Off (Repeat)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Shift Leader to join a high-performing team at a critical data centre facility in Essex. This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for maintaining the integrity, availability, and performance of all critical infrastructure systems within a 24/7 environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise shift engineering teams to ensure safe and efficient operation of all critical systems (electrical, mechanical, and HVAC)
- Act as the primary point of contact during shifts for all technical and operational issues
- Ensure compliance with all health & safety procedures and site-specific protocols
- Authorise and manage permits to work, including high-risk activities
- Monitor and respond to alarms via BMS and other monitoring systems
- Carry out and oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works
- Support incident management, including root cause analysis and reporting
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and handover documentation
- Ensure SLA and KPI targets are consistently met or exceeded
Essential Requirements
- HVAP (High Voltage Authorised Person) certification (mandatory)
- Level 2 & Level 3 Electrical Installations qualifications
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification
- Proven experience working in a critical environment (data centres, hospitals, or similar)
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Skills
- Experience with BMS and SCADA systems
- Knowledge of UPS systems, generators, and critical cooling systems
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a data centre
