Data Centre Technician – Docklands

We are seeking a skilled, proactive, and technically capable Data Centre Technician to join our Operations team in Docklands. This is a hands-on role within a high-availability, mission-critical environment, offering the opportunity to work with complex building systems and advanced infrastructure while supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

If you enjoy problem-solving, thrive on responsibility, and take pride in maintaining uninterrupted service in critical environments, this role offers both challenge and long-term career development within a respected operational team.

Role Overview

As a Data Centre Technician, you will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and technical oversight of building systems, plant, and critical infrastructure. Acting as a first responder to alarms and incidents, you will play a key role in protecting uptime, supporting service delivery, and ensuring full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.

You will work closely with site management, engineering teams, and external partners to deliver operational excellence across multiple data centre facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Incident Response

Act as first responder to critical alarms, liaising with the Client Service Desk and providing timely updates.

Monitor and maintain environmental control systems, ensuring conditions remain within specified tolerances.

Implement and follow change control procedures, accurately documenting software, hardware, and system updates.

Support site and client management during emergencies, drills, and incident responses.

Conduct inspections, testing, and fault diagnosis across electrical, mechanical, and plant systems.

Ensure safe start-up, operation, and shutdown of systems and equipment.

Maintenance & Optimisation

Deliver planned and reactive maintenance within agreed SLAs.

Identify opportunities for energy efficiency, system optimisation, and risk reduction.

Conduct technical audits to confirm system performance and asset compliance.

Support BMS calibration activities to maintain accuracy and system integrity.

Documentation & Compliance

Administer the Permit to Work (PTW) system to ensure compliance and operational control.

Review RAMS and access permits to proactively manage operational risk.

Develop and maintain site-specific SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs.

Accurately log all activities within CMMS and ticketing platforms.

Produce routine reports on UPS systems, battery condition, and asset status.

Teamwork & Development

Work closely with the Technical Manager and shift teams to ensure service continuity.

Support the training and development of junior technicians and apprentices.

Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure safe and timely issue resolution.

Skills, Experience & Competencies

Completed electrical apprenticeship or equivalent technical qualification.

Proven experience in building services, ideally within data centres or critical environments.

Strong technical understanding of building systems, fault diagnosis, and service delivery.

Confident communicator with the ability to engage professionally with clients, colleagues, and contractors.

Proactive, solutions-focused mindset, able to work independently and make sound technical decisions.

Strong commitment to health & safety, quality, compliance, and environmental best practice.

Experience with BMS, EMS, and critical infrastructure systems.

Knowledge of cGxP-controlled environments is advantageous.

Why Join Us?

You’ll be part of a high-performing, professional team operating at the core of mission-critical infrastructure. This role offers exposure to advanced systems, structured training, and genuine opportunities for progression within a growing data centre operation.

If you’re looking to build a long-term career in a technically challenging and rewarding environment, we’d love to hear from you.
