Role Overview As Lead Shift Engineer, you will take ownership of both planned and reactive maintenance activities, coordinating resources, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure sites operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical capability, clear communication, and the ability to foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) across all mechanical and electrical plant in line with site schedules and asset registers
- Respond promptly to reactive maintenance, identifying root causes and implementing improvement actions
- Diagnose and rectify plant faults to maintain operational efficiency and reliability
- Complete statutory maintenance in line with SFG20 requirements
- Maintain stock levels of critical spares and produce parts lists and timelines for remedial works
- Issue and manage Permits to Work for in-house and subcontractor activities
- Ensure all maintenance, reactive works, and breakdowns are accurately documented and submitted on time
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and client representatives
- Present a professional and customer-focused image at all times
- Maintain plant rooms in a safe, clean, and compliant condition
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, SLAs, KPIs, and SHEQ requirements
Qualifications & Experience Essential:
- Electrical or Mechanical Apprenticeship
- Strong experience within Facilities Management, with a proven operational track record
Desirable:
- HNC / HND / Foundation Degree
- BOAS / BG01
- City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
- IET 17th Edition
- City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 / 2395 (Testing & Inspection) or relevant HVAC qualification
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong knowledge of building services, statutory compliance, and relevant legislation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and CAFM systems
- Calm, methodical approach when working under pressure
- Experience leading, mentoring, or supporting engineering teams
