Overview We are recruiting a Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a growing team within a state-of-the-art, mission-critical data centre.

You will play a key role in maintaining 100% uptime, operational resilience, and statutory compliance across all electrical and mechanical systems, working within a 24/7 critical environment.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance

  • Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems
  • Monitor and operate BMS, PMS, and CMS systems to ensure continuous system availability
  • Respond to alarms, faults, and emergency callouts, carrying out fault finding and repairs
  • Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in line with L8 / water hygiene regulations
  • Supervise subcontractors, ensuring compliance with RAMS, PTW, and site procedures
  • Manage and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
  • Ensure all activities meet statutory, contractual, and Health & Safety requirements

Technical Oversight & Commissioning

  • Oversee M&E contractors, ensuring compliance with SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs
  • Support commissioning, testing, and handover of new infrastructure and upgrades
  • Assist in managing P1, P2, and P3 incidents alongside Shift Managers and Data Centre leadership

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate site logbooks, asset registers, and compliance records
  • Prepare, review, and approve RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments and promote best practice in Health & Safety
  • Accurately complete CAFM / CMMS task sheets and maintenance reports

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a key point of contact for client representatives and stakeholders
  • Attend operational meetings and support service delivery requirements
  • Deliver detailed shift handovers, including plant status, risks, and ongoing works
  • Work closely with Shift Teams and Data Centre Management to ensure seamless operations

Technical Scope Hands-on experience and fault finding across:
Electrical Systems

  • Single and three-phase systems
  • UPS systems and standby generators
  • Control panels and switchgear

HVAC & Mechanical Systems

  • Air Handling Units (AHUs)
  • Fan Coil Units (FCUs)
  • Chillers, split systems, and VSDs (Variable Speed Drives)

Fire & Life Safety

  • Fire detection and suppression systems

Water Systems

  • Open and closed chilled water systems

Incident Management

  • Respond to and support unplanned faults and emergency incidents within a live data centre
  • Ensure rapid escalation, communication, and resolution of critical issues

Skills & Experience Essential

  • Proven experience in a data centre or critical environment (e.g. finance, healthcare, infrastructure)
  • Strong hands-on experience with UPS systems, generators, HVAC plant, and BMS platforms
  • Ability to manage real-time faults and incidents in live environments
  • Experience coordinating maintenance and operational activities

Qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical or Building Services
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Emergency First Aid at Work

Desirable

  • HV Authorised Person (AP) status
  • PASMA, IPAF, Confined Space, Manual Handling certifications
  • Experience in high-availability / mission-critical environments
