Overview Our client is one of the UK’s most prestigious financial institutions, with a clear public mission: to deliver monetary and financial stability for the British people. With a diverse workforce of over 4,000 employees, the organisation is united by a strong commitment to public service, operational excellence, and national prosperity.

The Property Department, through its Infrastructure Engineering team, is responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and protecting the Bank’s built environment. This includes delivering resilient, high-quality engineering services that ensure business continuity across a complex and critical estate.

In addition to supporting core banking functions, the department oversees major capital investment programmes and a broad range of services, including strategic health and safety, facilities management (reception, help desk, catering, cleaning, and post), and travel services. The overarching objective is to ensure the Bank’s facilities—and all associated engineering systems—remain secure, compliant, and operationally resilient.

The Engineering Team The Engineering team comprises approximately 56 full-time professionals providing 24/7/365 engineering support across three critical sites. These locations include a mix of office accommodation, production environments, and data centre infrastructure, all of which demand continuous, high-reliability engineering support due to the critical nature of the systems in operation.

Job Description – Shift Technician As a Shift Technician, you will play a vital role in delivering reliable, high-performing engineering services across the Bank’s estate. You will be responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring critical systems operate safely, efficiently, and without interruption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) using the Planon Intelligent Work Management System (IWMS).
  • Respond to and resolve reactive maintenance tasks, prioritising safety, compliance, and operational continuity.
  • Carry out daily and periodic inspections of plant and systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Diagnose engineering faults, assign appropriate priority levels, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, public health, fire safety, and other essential building systems.
  • Support statutory inspections and compliance testing of life safety and critical infrastructure systems.
  • Work collaboratively with OEM contractors during planned and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Provide accurate updates and technical input to support Shift Leader handovers and reporting.
  • Act as an Authorised Person (AP) for low voltage electrical and/or mechanical systems in line with the Bank’s Safe System of Work (SSoW).
  • Complete all mandatory training, assessments, and annual performance objectives.
  • Promote a strong Health & Safety culture, acting as a site safety ambassador.
  • Ensure service delivery standards and compliance requirements are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the weekly on-call rota and support incident response and resilience exercises.

Essential Qualifications & Certifications

  • City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to achieve).
  • Eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance (sponsored by the Bank).

Technical Experience

  • Experience using IWMS platforms (preferably Planon) and HMI handheld devices.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, BMS, electrical, public health, and life safety systems.
  • Previous experience operating as an Authorised Person (AP) for LV and/or HV systems.
  • Familiarity with formal Safe Systems of Work.
  • Strong understanding of statutory compliance and regulatory obligations for building infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making aligned with established procedures and controls.
  • Analytical, solution-focused approach to fault finding and problem-solving.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive and professional mindset.
