The Opportunity Our client, a global leader in data centre solutions, is seeking an experienced HV Authorised Shift Engineer to join a high-performing team based in Slough.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a mission-critical data centre environment, supporting high-profile banking and enterprise clients. You will play a key role in maintaining operational resilience, system reliability, and regulatory compliance across critical infrastructure.
Role Overview As an HV Authorised Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and fault response of high-voltage electrical systems and associated mechanical plant.
Working a structured continental shift pattern, you will help ensure maximum uptime in a high-availability, zero-tolerance environment, where precision, accountability, and technical expertise are essential.
Key Responsibilities Electrical & Critical System
- Operate and maintain high-voltage (HV) electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, and standby generators
- Perform fault-finding and diagnostics on single-phase and three-phase distribution systems
- Carry out HV switching operations in line with Authorised Person responsibilities and safe procedures
- Support system uptime and resilience across critical power infrastructure
Mechanical & Building Services Support
- Maintain and support VRV / VRF systems and associated mechanical plant
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of building services systems within the data centre
- Ensure all plant operates efficiently and reliably
Compliance & Operational Excellence
- Work effectively within a continental shift pattern (days and nights)
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, site policies, and client standards
- Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, and system faults
- Follow Permit to Work (PTW) procedures and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
Essential Requirements
- Current High Voltage Authorisation (HVAP)
- Proven experience within data centres, banking environments, or critical facilities
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical distribution systems and building services
- Experience with UPS systems, generators, and critical infrastructure
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Flexible and reliable approach to shift-based work
