Job Title: Revenues and Benefits Officer
Location: Tyne & Wear
Hourly rate: Up to £30 per hour DOE
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7.5 hours per day

Job type: Full-Time, Temporary until Jan 2026

Are you passionate about delivering excellent customer service and making a real difference in your community? We’re looking for a dedicated Revenues and Benefits Officer to join our team and help provide high-quality, efficient services to residents.
 
About the Role
As a Revenues and Benefits Officer, you’ll be responsible for processing and administering a wide range of services including Council Tax, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support, and other local taxation and debt recovery functions. You’ll play a key role in ensuring customers receive timely and accurate support, while meeting performance targets and maintaining compliance with statutory regulations.
 
Key Responsibilities
Deliver professional and timely customer service across all contact channels.
Assess and process Council Tax liability, reductions, reliefs, and support.
Administer Housing Benefit and Discretionary Hardship Payments.
Manage billing, collection, and enforcement of various debts.
Maintain and update Council Tax, NNDR, Housing Benefit, and Sundry Debt accounts.
Conduct interviews, inspections, home visits, and attend court or events as required.
Support service improvements and contribute to team development.
 
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications: Minimum of 4 GCSEs (Grade C or above) including English and Maths (or equivalent).
Experience: At least 1 year in a customer service environment. Experience in Revenues and Benefits or similar (e.g. DWP, Housing) is desirable, but full training will be provided.
Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
